Shortage of Soldiers and Resources in Ukraine
According to the article, one of the key problems in Ukraine is the shortage of soldiers, along with the lack of modern aircraft and ammunition. To compensate for losses and create new brigades, the country needs to conscript at least 50,000 people every quarter and 200,000 by the end of the year. Ukraine has fallen significantly behind these targets.
Recruitment Challenges
Colonel Markus Reisner, head of the Officer Training Institute of the Theresian Military Academy in Vienna, suggested that recruiting thousands of prisoners could help, but it will not solve the root problem with the personnel. Some prisoners are attracted by the prospect of a fresh start and good pay, but others fear being used as «cannon fodder.»
Positive Trends in Mobilization Rates
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that there is a positive trend in mobilization rates, and the situation has improved compared to March and February.
