Residents of Kharkiv Region abandon street lighting: reasons and consequences

Residents of Kharkiv Region Begin Mass Disconnection of Street Lighting

Residents of the Kharkiv region have started to disconnect street lighting en masse due to the increase in daylight hours and in order to reduce the burden on the energy system. The Kolomak community has already completely turned off street lights.

The head of the Kolomak village council, Volodymyr Hurtoviy, announced that local residents have started to approach the village council with a proposal to disconnect street lighting in the evening, as they believe the light is not necessary and it is better to conserve energy resources.

«It looks unpleasant now when we illuminate our village and Kharkiv remains in darkness,» Hurtoviy noted in an interview with the publication «Slobidsky Krai.»

It is currently unknown when street lights will return to the community. Hurtoviy assured that the disconnection of lighting does not create significant inconveniences for residents.

Street lighting in the settlements of the Valky community is also temporarily turned off for the same reasons: the transition to daylight saving time and the wishes of residents.

After a serious blow to the energy infrastructure of the Kharkiv region on March 22, street lights are also not being turned on in Kharkiv.
