The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Reports Profit Decrease in 2023
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) reports that the profit for 2023 amounted to 76.6 billion UAH, which is less than the record 91 billion UAH for 2022. This information was provided by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the NBU press service.
NBU Allocates Funds for General Reserves and State Budget
According to the law requirements, the NBU allocated 37.97 billion UAH to increase the central bank’s general reserves, which should amount to 10% of the average annual volume of monetary claims. The remaining profit for distribution (38.64 billion UAH) was transferred to the state budget of Ukraine.
NBU’s Assets and Increase in Own Capital
As of the end of 2023, the NBU’s balance currency amounted to 2,392.6 billion UAH (compared to 1,958.6 billion UAH in 2022). The main components of the assets include securities of non-residents at 1,073.0 billion UAH, funds and deposits in foreign currency at 373.4 billion UAH, and Ukrainian securities at 728 billion UAH.
The increase in the NBU’s own capital size in 2023 by 28% to 420.1 billion UAH was due to the growth of revaluation reserves, mainly as a result of changes in the official exchange rate of the hryvnia to foreign currencies.
