Julian Assange Released from Belmarsh Prison
Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, was released from Belmarsh prison in London on the morning of June 24 after 1901 days of detention. He was granted bail by the High Court of London and immediately flew out of the UK from Stansted Airport.
Global Support Campaign Leads to Release
Assange’s associates on the X social media platform reported that this was made possible due to a global support campaign and ongoing negotiations with the US Department of Justice. They noted that the agreement has not been officially finalized yet.
Charged with Conspiracy
According to the plan, the 52-year-old Assange is charged with conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information. He is expected to receive a 62-month sentence, taking into account the 5 years spent in a British prison during the legal battle against extradition to the US.
Court Hearing Scheduled
A court hearing in the federal district court of the Northern Mariana Islands on Saipan is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:00 am.
