Tragic Incident at Southern Machine-Building Plant in Dnipro
Five people, including one civilian, lost their lives, and 5 others were injured in a shooting incident at the Southern Machine-Building Plant in January 2022. Recently, in the court of the Krasnogvardeisky district of Dnipro, the conscript responsible for the tragedy was sentenced to life imprisonment. The State Bureau of Investigations confirmed the sentencing but did not release the convict’s last name, previously identified as Artemiy Ryabchuk.
Details of the Case
According to the SBI, the former military serviceman admitted to his guilt, expressed remorse, and sought forgiveness from the families of the victims. The investigation revealed that conflicts with fellow servicemen during his military service led to a negative perception of the accused. Following a verbal altercation, he resorted to violence, resulting in the fatal shooting.
In January 2022, the accused accessed a rifle and ammunition from the storage room at the plant, proceeding to open fire indiscriminately. After the incident, he attempted to flee with a rifle and 200 rounds before being apprehended in Pidhorodne.
Despite undergoing numerous examinations, including a comprehensive psycho-psychiatric evaluation, no mental disorders were identified. The court found the defendant guilty on several charges, such as intentional homicide, attempted homicide, and desertion.
