Two Drivers Caught Offering bribes to Avoid Responsibility for Drunk Driving

Over the past weekend in Sumy region, police officers caught two drivers who were driving under the influence of alcohol and tried to avoid administrative responsibility by offering bribes.

Incidents Details

The first incident occurred at night in the city of Lebedyn. A 32-year-old local resident, who was driving a Renault Master, was stopped by patrol police officers. The police noticed signs of alcohol intoxication in the driver. In order to avoid a protocol, the man offered the police officers a bribe of 8,000 hryvnias.

The second incident took place in the village of Rudnivka. A 32-year-old driver of a VAZ 21099 was stopped by the patrol. The man was also intoxicated. Instead of drawing up a traffic violation protocol, he offered the police officers a bribe of 1, 000 hryvnias.

In both cases, investigative and operational groups arrived at the scene. The facts of bribery offers were documented.

Legal Action

Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Article 369 Part 1 («Offer, promise or giving of an unlawful benefit to a public official») of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Pre-trial investigation is ongoing, the Sumy region police communications department reported.
