European Parliament blocks funding to European Council over demand to provide Ukraine with Patriot missile defense system

According to RBC-Ukraine, the European Parliament has blocked a decision on funding the European Council due to a demand to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems. This information was made public by MEP and former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt on Twitter.

During his speech in the European Parliament, the Renew faction deputy proposed to remove the agenda item on approving the EU Council budget until the countries of the European Union provide Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems.

Verhofstadt emphasized that EU countries already have about a hundred such Patriot systems, while Ukraine only needs seven. His call received support from 515 parliamentarians, while 62 were against.

«The Parliament refuses to adopt the Council’s budget until the European Council decides to support Ukraine with additional Patriot missile defense systems,» Verhofstadt wrote on social media.
