Expansion of the metro school in Kharkiv: another 200 children want to study

The Expansion of Kharkiv’s Metro School

The director of the city’s education department, Olga Demenko, has announced plans to expand the metro school in Kharkiv, where an additional 200 children are expected to study. Since the beginning of the last academic year, around 1000 children were enrolled in the metro school, with the number of students increasing to almost 2200. In the new academic year, the metro school plans to educate 2400 children.

Classes are located at five metro stations: «University,» «Peremoha,» «Akademika Pavlova,» «Metrabudivnykiv,» and «Traktornyi Zavod.» The metro school provides medical care, free meals, internet access, video surveillance, and security. Children from all over the city are transported to the school for free with the supervision of the patrol police.

Since January 2024, groups have been working in the metro preparing children for school. On Saturdays and Sundays, 780 children attend these groups. 17 kindergartens are involved in the program, creating 41 groups. Overall, around 3000 children in Kharkiv, who are set to start first grade in 2024, are undergoing preschool preparation in the metro, which accounts for 25%.

Olga Demenko noted that there is also a demand for the metro school, as registration for the next year is already open.
