Foreign Investments in Kharkiv Restoration Reach Over $5 Million Despite Ongoing Shelling
Foreign investors have shown their commitment to the restoration of Kharkiv by investing over 5 million dollars in the city in the first three months of 2024, despite regular shelling from the Russian Federation. This information was shared by the director of the Office of Kharkiv’s reforms, Dmytro Davidyants, during the radio show «Nakypelo».
Davidyants stressed the critical importance of rebuilding the city today, rather than waiting for years. He highlighted that international organizations are actively involved in selecting contractors for the restoration work, while the city functions as a mediator in this process.
Thanks to collaborative efforts with district administrations and foreign partners over the past two years of the war, more than 5,000 apartments and private houses belonging to Kharkiv residents have been repaired.
In the fall of 2023, the Kharkiv City Council reported that around half of the city’s housing stock had been damaged or destroyed since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion. This led to over 150,000 residents losing their homes. Initial estimates suggest that the shelling has caused damage exceeding 10 billion US dollars.
The situation escalated at the end of December 2023 when the intensity of strikes from the Russian Federation increased significantly. Civilian objects and critical infrastructure in Kharkiv continue to be destroyed by enemy shells, further exacerbating the extent of damage incurred.
