Kharkiv residents urged to refrain from visiting beaches in Pechenihy

The Pechenizke reservoir in Kharkiv region

The head of the Pechenizka community, Oleksandr Husarov, is urging Kharkiv residents to avoid visiting the beaches at the Pechenizke reservoir due to the presence of mines.

History and Danger

The Pechenizke reservoir, built in 1962 to supply fresh water to Kharkiv, has an area of 86.2 square kilometers. In peacetime, it was a popular spot for recreation. However, due to the recent conflict, the area is littered with mines.

Recent Incident

Just last weekend, a 64-year-old man was injured in an explosion on the shore of the reservoir near Martova village. He accidentally triggered an anti-personnel mine while fishing and suffered serious shrapnel wounds to his legs.

Current Situation

While sappers are working to clear the minefields, the threat of mines in the area remains high. Please heed the warning and stay away from the shores of the Pechenizke reservoir for your safety.
