The Lithuanian government tightens procedures for the admission of foreign workers
The Lithuanian government has decided to tighten procedures for the admission of foreign workers and the issuance of temporary residence permits, LRT reports.
According to information from the country’s Ministry of the Interior, cases have been recorded of the creation of new companies that do not actually engage in business activities, but act as intermediaries in issuing temporary residence permits to foreigners. To prevent such cases, new rules have been established, under which companies that do not carry out activities in Lithuania or engage in fictitious activities are deprived of the right to invite foreigners to work for a period of six months.
Moreover, if a company that does not have the right to employ foreigners invites a foreigner to work, their application for a temporary residence permit will not be considered.
Now the list of external service providers will be approved by the Minister of the Interior personally, by order, rather than by the Migration Department as previously. It should be noted that currently external service providers exist in 34 countries.
Last year, about 50,000 foreigners came to work in Lithuania, mainly from Belarus, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Kyrgyzstan, with an increase in the number of foreigners from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan.
