Microsoft to separate chat and video app Teams from Office package worldwide, aiming to avoid EU antitrust fines

European Commission Investigates Microsoft Office and Teams Merger

According to Reuters, the European Commission is investigating the merger of Microsoft Office and Teams following a complaint from Salesforce in 2020. Microsoft had previously separated Teams in the EU and Switzerland, but is now planning to split it globally.

Changes in Microsoft Commercial Packages

Starting from April 1, Microsoft is introducing new commercial packages for Microsoft 365 and Office 365 that do not include Teams. For new commercial customers, prices for Office without Teams will range from $7.75 to $54.75, while standalone Teams will cost $5.25, depending on the country and currency.

Possible Antitrust Allegations

However, this move may not be sufficient to avoid antitrust accusations, so Microsoft may face new allegations in the coming months.
