Mobilization in the Armed Forces: The Impact of Hypertension on Fitness for Service

Impact of Hypertension on Military Service in Ukraine

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, a general mobilization has been ongoing, during which eligible citizens are called upon to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, some illnesses, such as hypertension, may become an obstacle to military service.

Hypertension is characterized by high blood pressure and increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Sometimes the condition can be asymptomatic, which complicates its detection.

According to the Regulations on Military Medical Examination in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, conscripts may be declared unfit for military service if the following diagnoses are identified:

  • Stage III hypertensive disease;
  • Malignant form of hypertension;
  • Symptomatic arterial hypertension up to stage 3;
  • Combination of symptomatic arterial hypertension with other clinical conditions.

This provision aims to ensure the maximum effectiveness and health of military personnel during their service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
