4.3 Million Ukrainians Benefit from Temporary Protection in the EU

By the end of May 2024, over 4.3 million Ukrainians have found temporary protection in various European Union countries in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as reported by Eurostat data.

Top Countries Providing Temporary Protection

The countries with the highest number of Ukrainian beneficiaries of temporary protection are Germany (1,332,515 people; 31.3% of the total in the EU), Poland (953,255; 22.4%), and the Czech Republic (356,405; 8.4%).

Increasing Numbers and Extended Protection

In the past month, there has been a notable increase in the number of beneficiaries in Germany (+14,250; +1.1%), the Czech Republic (+11,000; +3.2%), and Romania (+3,715; +2.4%). The European Council has approved the extension of temporary protection until March 2026 for those seeking refuge from Russian aggression, allowing those in need to stay protected for longer.
