Euro 2024 Final Tournament: Captains to Communicate with Referees
At the final tournament of Euro 2024, UEFA is set to introduce new rules that will allow team captains to communicate with the referee during the match. This decision was announced by Roberto Rosetti, the UEFA managing director for refereeing.
«The referee cannot always explain his decision to 22 players, which can lead to communication breakdowns and chaos on the field. To improve the image of football, we aim for referees to explain their decisions to all teams participating in the Euro 2024 final tournament,» Rosetti stated.
Captains are also encouraged to prevent other players from attacking or surrounding the referee. This initiative aims to facilitate direct communication between team captains and the referee, ensuring timely conveyance of decisions.
