Border guard sentenced for organizing illegal smuggling of draft dodgers
A border guard in the Odessa region has been sentenced to two years of service in a disciplinary battalion for organizing the illegal smuggling of draft dodgers. According to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of Southern Ukraine, the junior lieutenant created a scheme for smuggling conscripts abroad in December 2023.
While on vacation, he enlisted the help of two acquaintances to smuggle two men of draft age to the border. Despite his attempts to discreetly transport them to the unrecognized Transnistria, the plan was foiled and all participants were arrested just 100 meters from the border.
The border guard had received eight thousand dollars from each client for his services. He was found guilty under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for illegal smuggling of persons across the state border of Ukraine.
