Odessa resident fined for demanding bribes for placing kiosks at the memorial

The head of the «411th battery» memorial, Vitaliy Sosyuk, has been found guilty of receiving undue advantage for influencing the decision of the local government. The Kyiv District Court of Odesa has imposed a fine of 51 thousand hryvnias on him.

Case Details

According to the correspondent of «Dumskaya», initially Sosyuk’s actions were qualified under Part Three of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for up to eight years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. However, the court applied a less severe punishment under Part Two of the same article, which provides for a fine or a minimum term of imprisonment.

Sosyuk, working at a historical and local lore museum, demanded a bribe of 5,000 dollars from a businessman for placing trade pavilions on the memorial’s territory. In May 2023, he was arrested while receiving the second installment of the bribe. Officials from the regional council’s property management department are not involved in the case, as the investigation did not establish their involvement in the corruption scheme.
