Drunk Driver Gets Prison Sentence for Hitting Child in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi District

A resident of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district has been sentenced by the court for drunk driving and hitting a child, as reported by the Odessa Regional Police Department via the «Yug.Today» news agency.

The incident occurred on May 25 last year in the village of Roilanka in the Dyvizii community. The 35-year-old driver, under the influence of alcohol, struck a ten-year-old boy while driving a DAEWOO LANOS car on one of the village streets. The child, who was walking along the road, suffered severe injuries including an open skull-brain injury and a spinal fracture. The forensic medical examination classified these injuries as severe.

Police determined that the driver’s blood alcohol level was almost 15 times over the legal limit. The offender was detained and his vehicle was seized in accordance with the law.

The driver was charged with violating road safety regulations while intoxicated, resulting in severe physical harm to the victim. The court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison, along with a five-year driving ban.
