Belgrade to hold repeat elections following opposition protests
The opposition coalition «Serbia Against Violence» has called the government’s agreement to new elections a major victory. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) announced for the first time that repeat municipal elections will be held in Belgrade, which took place on December 17.
The decision was made after mass protests by the opposition and a negative assessment of the voting process by international observers. This was reported by the acting mayor of the Serbian capital, Aleksandar Šapić.
It is noted that the new elections are expected to take place within 30 days.
