Salaries in Ukrainian Politics: Who Earns More?

Salaries Discrepancy in Ukrainian Political Structures

Recently, in Ukraine, there has been a discussion about the high variety of salaries in political structures. According to official data, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and his deputies earn significantly less than the heads of the respective government agencies they oversee. This trend is also observed in the Verkhovna Rada.

For example, the head of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, earned an average of 79 thousand hryvnias per month in 2023. In comparison, the head of the Verkhovna Rada’s Apparatus, Viacheslav Shtuchny, received around 247.8 thousand hryvnias, and his deputy, Yuri Hanik, received 262.5 thousand hryvnias.

Members of the Verkhovna Rada, apart from the committee chair, on average, received 55 thousand hryvnias. This situation is causing debates on financial incentives in politics and administration, as well as ambiguity in payment between different levels of management.
