Scandal at the Fountain: Odessa City Hall is selling valuable municipal property in parts

In Odessa, suspicions of corruption schemes have arisen again: the local authorities have begun the process of privatizing a part of an old building in Fontana, which could lead to the sale of valuable land near the sea and a monastery.

City Council Decision

At yesterday’s session of the city council, a decision was made to include a part of non-residential buildings at 6/1 Monastyrsky Lane in the list of small privatization and their sale at auction. It is important to note that there is a significant green area next to these buildings, which is listed as a decorative garden in the documents.

Attractive Land Plot

This land plot, located in a prime area overlooking the sea and near the monastery of the Moscow Patriarchate, looks incredibly attractive for potential buyers. Owners will receive not only buildings, but also almost a hectare of green territory, which is an excellent base for the construction of residential complexes or commercial objects.

Transparency Issues

According to information, these buildings with an area of 97.9 sq. m (out of a total area of 489.5 sq. m) were previously leased through an auction on Prozorro.sale, where the tenant pays 10.4 thousand UAH per month. However, details about the participants and winners of the auctions were closed, raising doubts about the transparency of the process.

Photos from the auction confirm that one of the buildings was previously used as a police station and is now in a neglected state. Local activists and journalists have already drawn attention to the possible corrupt component of this process, especially in the absence of open information about the participants in the auctions.

Uncertain Future

The question remains as to who exactly will be given this valuable land plot and what consequences this will have for the development of the city and its residents.
