Ukraine increases defense capabilities: talks with Norway and prospects of air defense systems

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Discusses Air Defense Systems with Norwegian Counterpart

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba recently met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Bart Eide to discuss air defense systems. During a press conference following the talks, Kuleba expressed gratitude to Norway for their support in developing NASAMS surface-to-air missile systems in Ukraine amid Russian aggression.

«We appreciate Norway’s efforts in providing us with more NASAMS systems. We are also in discussions with Norway and other countries about the possibility of acquiring PATRIOT systems,» Kuleba stated.

Minister Eide highlighted that Norway, along with other partners, is exploring options to further assist Ukraine with PATRIOT systems. He emphasized the importance of air defense not only for safeguarding the economy and infrastructure but also for boosting morale.

Germany has also pledged support by offering additional PATRIOT systems to Ukraine. However, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that more systems are necessary for full protection against Russian drones and missiles. Kuleba mentioned that while Ukraine has identified 100 available PATRIOT systems worldwide, they initially plan to receive only 7.
